Buying a used mobility scooter: inspection checklist
A second-hand mobility scooter can be worth considering when its condition and specification are clear. Compare the total cost after any immediate work, not just the asking price. A worn battery or unavailable charger can change the value of a used machine substantially.
Identify the exact scooter
Record the model, serial number, battery details and charger identification. Ask for the instructions, purchase history and service records. Confirm the UK classification of the actual configuration; a familiar model name or an overseas advert does not establish its status.
Inspect condition and operation
Look for damage, corrosion, loose components and tyre wear. Ask a competent technician to assess brakes, steering, electrical condition and the battery where you cannot judge these yourself. A short demonstration with a full charge does not establish remaining battery capacity or reliable range.
Check the paperwork and support
Where DVLA registration applies, check the registration position and transfer documents with the seller. Ask whether replacement parts, keys and the correct charger are available. Understand who provides any warranty and what it covers. This is a buying checklist, not a claim that For Motion currently has used stock; contact us for current availability and advice.
Discuss your shortlist
Tell us your postcode, usual route, storage measurements and the models you are considering. We can discuss the configuration and provide a written quote with delivery details. Request a quote or use the buying guide.
