Folding mobility scooters: will it fit your car boot?
A folding scooter can reduce the space needed for storage, but the folded dimensions and lifting weight are separate questions. Compare both with your car and your ability to load it. A scooter that fits inside the boot may still be difficult to lift over its sill.
Measure the boot opening first
Measure the narrowest opening, the loading height and the usable depth with the rear seats in their normal position. Check whether the scooter must be lifted in one piece or whether the battery or seat can be removed according to its instructions. Include the space needed for shopping and walking aids.
Try the lifting movement
Ask for the weight of the heaviest component, not only the total weight or a description such as lightweight. Consider grip positions and whether you can keep the load close to your body. If assistance or a loading aid is necessary, confirm compatibility with the car and scooter before purchase.
Secure it for the journey
Follow the vehicle and scooter instructions for transporting the scooter and battery. Folding does not mean the scooter can be left unsecured. For air travel, check the airline's acceptance process for the exact battery and model before booking; being foldable alone does not establish airline approval.
