Two-seater mobility scooters: UK use and buying advice
Searching for a two-seater mobility scooter, tandem scooter or two-person cabin often starts with wanting to travel together. That extra seat changes an important assumption: GOV.UK describes mobility scooters and powered wheelchairs as single-seat vehicles. Do not assume that a two-seat machine has the same pavement or road permissions.
How For Motion presents two-seat models
The UK two-seat range is presented for private-land use only. It is not offered as a class 2 or class 3 solution for carrying a passenger on public roads or pavements. Confirm that your intended location is suitable, obtain the landowner's permission where needed and discuss the exact use before ordering.
Compare access and load
Ask for the total permitted load and how it applies to both occupants and luggage. Compare seat positions, foot space and how each person gets on and off. A tandem layout and a side-by-side cabin need different storage and turning space.
Questions for your shortlist
- Can both occupants enter and leave comfortably?
- Does the vehicle fit the intended paths, gates and parking area?
- Which battery and seating arrangement are included?
- Is the proposed journey entirely within a suitable private site?
View the two-seat models and their restrictions. For public travel, consider each person's needs separately rather than treating an extra seat as a simple accessory.
