Figures as For Motion states them; range depends on the battery pack, the weight carried and how you ride. UK road eligibility depends on the model and its approved configuration. A speed limit of 8 mph alone does not make a vehicle eligible. Confirm the intended use in your quote and see the rules page.

Product description

The Forty-5 Duo is the Forty-5 with two full seats, one behind the other: out together to the market, to family, or a day by the water. Two 1,200 W motors that take a hill two-up, and up to 186 miles (300 km) on the largest battery option, measured at 25 km/h. In Britain it is a private-land machine.

Range on one charge

For Motion's own figures in normal use; two-up, into a headwind or on a hill you will get less. With two batteries a switch selects which one is working.

1 × 60 Ahabout 62 miles (100 km)
1 × 80 Ahabout 84 miles (135 km)

Who it suits (and who it doesn't)

A good fit if you have private ground to ride on and want two people seated properly, over distance. The long wheelbase and low centre of gravity keep it settled.

Look at another model if you need to use the public road or the pavement: only a single-seat machine can do that here. See the On Four or the Forto, both supplied at 8 mph. Measure your garage first: 234 cm long, 80 cm wide.

Controls your way

The throttle can be a twist grip, a thumb throttle or a foot throttle, on the left or the right; braking can be by foot pedal as well, with the brake levers reversed if that suits you better. For Motion's Dutch specification also names a single lever working both brakes; ask us whether it is available for your build. Swivelling comfort seats make sideways entry easier, and seat heating is available from the 40 Ah battery upwards. Hill assist holds the Duo still on a slope. Every adaptation and what it adds is in the configurator above.

Riding this in the UK

UK law defines a mobility scooter — an invalid carriage — as a vehicle constructed or adapted to carry one person. The Duo has two seats, so it can never be a Class 2 or Class 3 machine here, at any speed. In Britain it is for private land only: a golf course, a caravan site, a farm or a private estate, with the owner's permission. Not the public highway, not a car park, not the footway. Our rules page sets out the classes, and funding explains what help exists.

Options and accessories

A lockable top box is standard; the XL case is an option. The configurator above lists every option for the Forty-5 Duo and what each one adds. Speed: the group runs from a 5 mph limitation up to 20 mph, but because the Duo seats two no setting makes it a UK mobility scooter — every build is for private land only here, as explained above. Battery and charging: five lithium configurations from 2 × 20 Ah to 2 × 80 Ah, a removable battery, and an 8–10 A, 12 A adjustable or 20 A charger in place of the standard 4 A unit. Weather and comfort: a roof, a tall clear windscreen, a leg apron, heated grips, a hand muff set or heated gloves, and covers for the scooter and the windscreen. Practical: a front basket, a rollator holder at the rear, a cane holder, a phone holder with or without a 12 V USB socket, a 12 V connection, a 230 V socket, winter tyres on their own rims, a bicycle-trailer hitch, and a tow bar with or without trailer lighting. Security: an ART 3 or ART 4 chain lock, an ART4 wall anchor, a GPS tracker or a tracking transmitter. Highway pegs and infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are named in For Motion's Dutch specification; ask us whether they are available for your build. Maintenance packages and multi-year service contracts are listed too; for a United Kingdom address, ask us in the quote what servicing we can offer before you choose one.
